Melasma is a common medical condition of the skin with increased patches of pigmentation primarily on the face. While it can occur in both genders, 90% of cases occur in women. Melasma appears as a brown, tan, or gray patch of discoloration occurring on the cheeks, forehead, upper lip or around the mouth. Melasma can be triggered by sun, hormone therapy, pregnancy, or genetic predisposition.
