JOINT PAIN & INFLAMMATION

Joint pain and inflammation vary from moderate to severe, and can alter your lifestyle, making it difficult to enjoy. Many patients experience pain due to degenerative joint disease, also known as osteoarthritis.

Osteoarthritis is a degenerative disease of the connective tissue and progresses with age in the older population or develops in young athletes following sports-related injuries. The articular cartilage is especially vulnerable to damage and has poor potential for regeneration because of the absence of vasculature within the tissue. Normal load-bearing capacity and biochemical properties of thinning cartilage are severely compromised during the course of disease progression. Although there are surgical and pharmaceutical treatment options, they are not always appropriate or effective for most. There is hope for patients to experience pain relief and regain their life with this alternative treatment.

Using Your Body's Own Healing Potential

Enriched Cell Treatment is a  breakthrough, non-surgical treatment for the improvement of joint pain. These cells have self-renewal qualities which aid in the reproduction of cartilage and bone tissue cells, the restoration of joint function, and the reduction of pain.

*Enriched Blood Cells play an integral part in wound healing and regeneration of tissue at the cellular level.

Your blood is enriched with platelets. As a concentrated source of your own platelets, it contains (and releases through degranulation) several different growth factors that stimulate healing.

How the Procedure Works

A small sample of Adipose tissue (fat) is removed from the abdomen under a local anesthetic. Obtaining Adipose-Derived Blood Cells (ADSCs) is much easier and less invasive than performing a bone marrow extraction. In addition, adipose tissue contains much larger volumes of mesenchymal cells than does bone marrow. We use the patient's own adipose tissue to extract the cells. Autologous means that the donor and the recipient are the same person. Our technology allows us to complete the entire procedure on the same day, using less than minimally manipulated methods.

Is it safe?

Yes, an Autologous Adipose Cell Procedure is completely safe because the adipose tissue is removed from one's own body via sterile technique and remains in a controlled environment. There are no problems with cell rejection or disease transmission with this technique.

Why choose an Adipose Cell Treatment?

Adipose (fat) tissue provides the largest volume of adult cells (500 to 2,000 times the number of cells per volume found in bone marrow). In addition to adult blood cells, fat tissue also contains numerous other cells that are important to the healing process. Mesenchymal cells derived from adipose fat tissue have been shown to be a much better source for the repair of cartilage degeneration and recent studies have demonstrated its superior ability to differentiate into cartilage.

Are there any detrimental side effects?

No, the adipose tissue is extracted from the patient’s own body so no ‘foreign’ donors are used.  This minimizes the potential for immune rejection. Our procedure is performed completely in-house and administered by licensed physicians.

Please keep in mind that every procedure does have its risks, but we do practice sterile technique which makes the risk of infection very low. In fact, we have not had any infections develop in any of the patients we have treated as we take great care in keeping a sterile environment.

Disclaimer: Autologous Adipose Cell Treatments are not approved by the FDA. These treatments are not a cure for any condition, disease or injury, nor a substitute for proper medical diagnosis and care.

TESTIMONIALS

“Dr Martin is a pioneer. I sent many patients to him, and I also had the procedure done in my own arthritic hips. The treatment was very beneficial and a wonderful mode of therapy for me and my patients’ needs.”

            - Dr. Don Swift, Orthopaedic Surgeon

"I just passed my five year anniversary of the cell treatment on both of my knees. It has been an incredible journey for me. Prior to the procedure I found it difficult to get up out of my chair, could not keep up walking and it was impossible to go down an escalator. Then I got acquainted with Dr. Michael Martin of SouthPointe Family Physicians P.C. of Lincoln, Nebraska. I met him and he considered me a good candidate. One knee was bone on bone and the other very close the same. I went in early one morning and walked out to go home before lunch. I had a small amount of stiffness in one knee that evening but the next day both knees were pain free. I continued to do everything that I had done before, only faster and without pain. I can go walking again, do escalators without problems and do a lot of dancing. Most of all I am grateful for being able to enjoy and do things with my grandchildren. Thank you God and thank you Dr. Michael Martin for the chance to spend my life being active again."
